A rainbow appeared briefly over the horizon Thursday afternoon, as viewed from the cul de sac at Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve (SHIP) on the west side of Anacortes. Note ribbon of fresh water making its way to the sea (lower left hand corner). LOTS of water for the past few weeks.
Approaching LaConner from the Hole in the Wall, under “Rainbow Bridge.” That’s Fidalgo Island on the left, the Skagit Valley mainland and downtown LaConner on the right. This is the third major bridge linking Fidalgo Island to its neighbors: Berentson Bridge (a twin span over the Swinomish Channel on Highway 20); Deception Pass Bridge (actually […]
It was a week ago that son Mark and I had a great time scrambling around the base of breathtaking Chatterbox Falls in British Columbia. Mark’s sense of adventure was greater than mine, leading him to seek a “shower” under the falls. We made the trip with a group of men from church aboard the […]
It was just about dinner time on Thanksgiving when this beautiful rainbow appeared, planting one foot in downtown Anacortes. Minutes later there was a double rainbow, the outer arch more faint than the first. To our delight, the rainbow lingered with strong, vibrant bands of color for quite awhile.
On beautiful days like today I often wish I could hop in the car and head “upriver” into eastern Skagit County. I took this photograph years ago on a trip to Diablo Dam. This weekend (February 5 and 6) the highway will be filled with folks heading to the Upper Skagit Bald Eagle Festival (See […]
Blue skies and billowy white clouds drew me to LaConner yesterday afternoon, and I was rewarded with this photo of the Rainbow Bridge. This bridge is one of three spans linking Fidalgo Island with the Skagit Valley and Whidbey Island. There’s Berentson Bridge (twin bridges) over the Swinomish Channel, the Rainbow Bridge linking Fidalgo and […]
We were treated Sunday afternoon to not just one, but two rainbows sweeping full over Anacortes. The double bow appeared before the Super Bowl broadcast, so there’s a chance some percentage of the population enjoyed it.
