Criers greeting

Several visiting town criers gather to greet a slightly tardy host, Anacortes Town Crier Richard Riddell. A weekend competition of North American town criers was kicked off at the Anacortes Brewery Friday evening with a toast featuring a commemorative ale by Head Brewer Kevin Pierce. Competition opens Saturday, 10 a.m. at historic Causland Park.

Independence

Reminiscent of days gone by, when “town criers” announced the news of the day, official Anacortes Town Crier Richard Riddell will join other dignitaries in celebration of America’s Independence Day on Sunday, July 4. Events include an 11 a.m. downtown parade, followed by festivities at historic Causland Park on 8th Street.

Anacortes Town Crier Richard Riddell was named the best American Crier at the North American Town Crier Competition in Annapolis, MD held on the first weekend in May.
