Wind and motor

Sail up, sail down for these boaters moving in opposite directions Tuesday afternoon on the Guemes Channel. The 4th is behind us, sunny days ahead, so recreational activity is bound to spike in coming weeks.

Magic time

Vicky Johnsen of Anacortes spent much of sunny Wednesday applying her loving touch to “Magic,” the sailboat she and husband Craig had custom built years ago in Sidney, B.C. This scene was photographed at Cap Sante Boat Haven.

Rare beauty

I spotted this large sailboat (schooner?) from the living room window Saturday afternoon. By the time I arrived downtown with camera, her crew was moving rapidly toward the islands. Anyone know any particulars?

Toward the pass

I’ve been over Deception Pass Bridge countless times, but it’s wonderful to see the Pass from the air or the water. I had the opportunity last weekend to spend the morning with friends enroute from Oak Harbor to Anacortes. Lots of other boaters had plotted a similar course.

Back at Canoe

We had a wonderful morning, bumming as friend Larry motored his sailboat from Oak Harbor to Anacortes. This shot was taken from Deception Pass, looking back at Canoe Bridge.

Remote boating

Among activities that draw a crowd at the Anacortes Waterfront Festival are the remote control boats. This year there was a regatta at Seafarers’ Park in addition to making this space available for display work.
