I don’t have details, but I found this image with a note that I had scanned it for the late Irene Cameron, a dear family friend. I’m thinking Lake Campbell school, Thirties. It’s a classic.
A flight over Anacortes Thursday morning revealed football players practicing on War Memorial Field at Anacortes High School (AHS). In addition, there was a crew doing roof repairs on the high school. The first day of school must be just around the corner.
It’s only a matter of time now before neighborhood kids with sleds and discs begin to populate the hill on our corner. School’s cancelled for the day, and forecasts call for continued cold, so the white stuff’s likely to be around awhile. It was very quiet when I ventured outside on the deck this morning […]
It was still snowing in south Anacortes this morning (Wednesday) when I took this shot of a small garden decoration. Last night’s snow was enough to convince local school officials to close for the day. The first two days of the week drew “late arrival” decisions as parents and bus drivers did their best to […]
School’s out in Anacortes! Kids in the neighborhood bundled up and headed for the hill at daybreak, packing the snow so the sun won’t melt it so quickly.
These are a few of the incredible volunteers who together committed hundreds of hours to helping students at Anacortes Middle School meet challenges in the area of math. Many of them will return next year to tutor students again. Pictured here are some of the team members: (top) Rachel Mehl, Diana Holmes, Judy Vandivert, Jim […]
The close of the school year marks the close of careers for several Anacortes School District teachers and district nurse Margaret Cook (second from left). Among eight educators honored Thursday at an afternoon reception were (l. to r.) Richard Mitlyng, Margaret Cook, Terry Buchanan and Kathy Buchanan. The event, co-sponsored by the school district and […]
I captured this image of a crew working on an “M” Avenue power line (right) while I was visiting the school district office at Anacortes Middle School on Thursday. Mt. Baker was obscured by a cloud, but this is a nice view of Fidalgo Bay. On the left is the steeple at Anacortes Lutheran Church.
This art, which appears on the wall of a stairway at Anacortes High School, was created last year by members of the student leadership class. It reads: “In honor of those who looked fear in the face, battled it with courage and are no longer with us today.”
Signs all around town today expressed thanks to those who voted to approve a $10.5 million, two-year levy presented by the Anacortes School District. Levy campaign co-chairs Lucie Yeomans and Jean Andrich joined other campaign leaders and school officials in thanking volunteers and supporters in the wake of a 67 percent approval (final returns still […]
All throughout the community, teachers like Didi Funk at Island View Elementary School spent time this week preparing their classrooms for students. Funk, a veteran fifth grade teacher, was conducting an “out-with-the-old” sweep of her classroom at the time this photo was taken. For more back to school photos, see Activities section.
