No offense, Mr. Seagull, but a great egret is kind of a big deal around here. You and yours are, well, more familiar to us. Hence, less likely to be photographed. Nice seeing you, though.

I took a walk on Tommy Thompson Trail Tuesday. The trip included encounters with a variety of Northwest birds including a killdeer. Near the Samish Indian Nation recreational vehicle park at Weaverling Spit in Anacortes.
I was attracted to the bright greens and yellows of a massive rock just off the south shore of Fidalgo Island at Deception Pass. When this seagull cruised by below me, I panned right to keep him in focus in a low light situation. A Pacific Northwest scene, to be sure.
My presence on the beach prompted airborne antics among several seagulls including this one, who opted for a new perch a bit further from the photographer.
What a joy this morning to watch seagulls soaring above the house, billowy white clouds and blue skies as a background.
“I got yer back,” this seagull appears to be saying as he peeks over his shoulder from a perch on the head of the “Lady of the Sea” sculpture at Seafarers’ Memorial in downtown Anacortes.
If you look close you’ll see not only a seagull, but a blue heron perched on the rocks on a lazy Deception Pass morning. The birds’ playground was the swirling water just a few hundred yards east of the bridge.
