Shell refinery once Texaco

The refinery now operating under the Shell Oil umbrella began operations as a Texaco refinery in 1958. It later transitioned to Shell ownership. The refinery next door, which began operations in 1955, transitioned from Shell to Tesoro to Marathon (current owner).

Tesoro announced Friday its plans to invest about $50 million in a land-based crude oil unloading facility at its Anacortes refinery. Relay colors

Sporting the latest in Relay for Life hair fashion are members (those with hair, that is) of the Tesoro Refinery volunteer team. The annual American Cancer Society fund-raiser, held this year at Anacortes High School War Memorial Field, started Saturday, running through the night and into Sunday morning.

Tops at Tesoro

Anacortes High School alum Maren Hanson took home hardware for the second consecutive year at the 2011 Tesoro March Point Run. Maren was overall winner in the women’s division of the 10K. Other competitive divisions included the 5K and the children’s half-mile. The race took place Saturday morning on March Point.

Business goes to school

A group of Tesoro Refinery employees and other community volunteers including Mayor Dean Maxwell spent the day at Island View Elementary School Tuesday teaching about the free enterprise system. The day was sponsored by Junior Achievement, a non-profit organization committed to teaching schoolchildren about business.
