Old time tractor amid tulips, North Whidbey Island, April 2018. Filter effect.
In recognition of the 2021 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, this image from 2017. Effect allows the viewer to “see” the flowers in any color he or she imagines…
It was mid-March 2015 when blue skies and the promise of seasonal images drew me over the bridge from Fidalgo Island to the Skagit Valley. I was not disappointed. One of these shots features not only tulips, but a huge flock of snow geese in the background. Gotta love Spring!
Given the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, public access to the Skagit Valley’s famous tulip gardens is limited to roadside viewing. I shot these images through an open passenger’s seat window. Check Tulip Town and Roozengaarde websites for photos taken inside the fenceline.
Skagit Valley’s beautiful tulips are bursting forth, even though there will be no “big show” this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. I took this photo 10 years ago, intend to do “driveby” photos soon.
We stayed with the car, but were happy we made the decision to enjoy some of the “eye candy” of the bountiful Skagit Valley. Daffodils, soon to be followed by tulips. Looks like we will be forced to enjoy the tulips in “virtual” fashion this year, due to proximity restrictions established in an effort to […]
We’ve got tulips next door, literally and figuratively as April is the month of the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. My daily treks to the newspaper box and mailbox are made brighter by my neighbor’s beautiful garden, which includes several varieties of tulips. I intend to head for the Valley soon, but right now there’s […]
Skagit Valley’s renowned Tulip Festival is underway, and weekdays are a great time for “locals” to enjoy the blossoms without the high volume of tourist traffic that comes on weekends. I recommend a stop at Roozengaarde on Beaver Marsh Road in Mount Vernon. Well worth the $5 investment. See www.tulipfestival.org for details about the month-long […]
No, it’s not a red chili pepper. Captured this image this morning on the way back from the newspaper box. With sun expected over the course of the next few days, I’m guessing I’ll see this tightly curled beauty open up. So nice to share “borders” with a neighbor who loves plants.
Selection Wednesday evening of young “tulip ambassadors” hints of the 2010 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, a wildly popular event that “spills” many tourists into Anacortes. Selected as 2010 Key Bank Tulip Festival Ambassadors were 11-year-old Blake Gurney of Burlington and 10-year-old Anna-Marie Alvarado of Mount Vernon. Among judges who made final ambassador selections among 52 […]
April Fool’s Day marks the beginning of the month-long Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, now celebrating its 26th year. This is a file photo I shot from the early days at Roozengaarde (so far, daffodils are blooming with tulips yet to show full color). Many tourists end up spending time in Anacortes, too, as the Anacortes […]
As is the case in the neighboring valley, Fidalgo Island tulips are tardy this spring. Given the extraordinary weather we’ve experienced in recent weeks, you can’t really blame these flowers for staying buttoned up a bit longer. Besides, they are beautiful even before they blossom. P.S. The splash of pink in this photo is from […]
