After a long hiatus I finally got to the top of Mt. Erie this morning, a trip that yielded this view of Lake Campbell and environs. The city has closed the mountain road to vehicles from Friday through Sunday, citing COVID-19 concerns. Hikers are free to access the mountain and trail system, so there are […]
Even when skies are not entirely clear, the view from Mt. Erie is breathtaking. Looking south…
Volunteers pass through the doors of Anacortes public schools by the dozens each day. Among volunteers today at Island View Elementary School were Liz Jenkins (left) and Joanne Dyer, who offered free popcorn to schoolchildren during the lunch hour.
This is the view looking north from the point where 5th Street meets Fidalgo Bay.
A view from the rocks at Cap Sante, overlooking downtown Anacortes and Cap Sante Boat Haven. Be patient. The sun will return.
Old and new, both with a view. These Cap Sante homes face Fidalgo Bay and Mt. Baker. There are several new homes in the neighborhood, and a few under construction.
New housing starts continue at an impressive rate in Anacortes. For many residents of Rock Ridge, a housing development adjacent to city forestland on the northwest corner of the island, it’s all about the view. A construction crew spent its Saturday on this new Rock Ridge home.
Actually, the view’s there now, but it will be awhile before this new residential development is ready for occupants. The site is located at the end of 17th Street above Oakes Avenue, with a sweeping view of the Guemes Channel and neighboring islands. The blue building in the center on water’s edge is located at […]
Pictured here is a blue heron, taking in the sights from a piling near the west shore of the Swinomish Channel. The channel marks the east boundary of Fidalgo Island, accessible by three bridges including the Duane Berentson Bridge pictured here. This property is owned by the Swinomish Tribe and will soon become home to […]
A view like this makes it easy to understand why visitors to Anacortes decide to make Fidalgo Island their home. This photograph was taken Wednesday afternooon from a new street in Rock Ridge, located near Little Cranberry Lake. The residential neighborhood represents realization of a dream my dad began investing in as a young man. […]
There’s a reason local folks send visiting out-of-towners to Cap Sante. This is a Sunday morning view to the west, toward Cap Sante Boat Haven. Visible to the top right is the New Wilson Hotel (red brick), tentatively scheduled for renovation in the near future. Pictured at the base of the photo is the gazebo […]
It’s not likely you’ll find solitude here at this time of year, but there is often a bench seat available near this weathered crag at the top of the Washington Park Loop Road. At least two generations of my family have utilized this tree as backdrop for photographs of children. The Loop Road summit provides […]
