An-O-Chords barbecue

It’s like a family picnic, really … a major difference being that those who step up front to sing can actually carry a tune. Boy, can they carry a tune! It’s the annual An-O-Chords barbecue, the salmon feast and entertainment event that follows two nights of performance at Brodniak Auditorium. This afternoon barbecue was great, with summer sun that warmed the crowd gathered on the grassy hill sloping up from the beach. What a great natural setting for a concert! Among performing quartets were Rivalry and The Four Voices. The atmosphere was relaxed and it was obvious the singers were having as much fun as those on the listening end of their performances.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
