Eagles Thanksgiving

It’s an awesome annual tradition … free Thanksgiving dinner at the Eagles Hall in downtown Anacortes for those who might not otherwise share the holiday experience most of us take for granted. Among volunteers working this morning in preparation of the noon banquet were Utensil Squad members (top, l. to r.) Trisha Miner, Leah Heiberg, Peggy Goss and Lindsay Gruye’. The mom and daughter team of Shawna and Sandra Sparrow worked on table decorations. Also volunteering as a family were pie slicers Brandon, Connie, Gary and Susan Grimnes. Several volunteers including Dick and Audrey Rice packed tiny containers with cranberries, a tasty American tradition. Thank you, Eagles Club and volunteers, for making this community a better place to live.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
