Waterfront Festival kickoff

It was a full house Thursday night for the official unveiling of the 2004 Anacortes Waterfront Festival poster. In addition to introduction of poster artist Jennifer Bowman (pictured to the right of poster), Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator Beth Prins displayed a T-shirt design featuring elements of the Bowman watercolor. Dignitaries included Mayor Dean Maxwell, Port of Anacortes Director Dan Stahl and port commissioners Bill Short and Pat Mooney. The port co-sponsors the annual Waterfront Festival, which takes place at Cap Sante Marina May 22 and 23. Also on hand for the event were Tom Smith (left of poster), representing poster sponsor Shell Puget Sound Refinery, and Don Wick, director of the Economic Development Association of Skagit County. Dozens of guests gathered a the event, which doubled as a grand opening for the new Island Adventures and Anacortes Kayak Tours headquarters. Among those pictured here are Bill Turner, Harbormaster Dale Fowler and Anacortes Kayak Tours owners Megan and Erik Schorr.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
