Cougs are coming

Just a couple of weeks before WSU football hits Seattle to face Colorado, to the delight of thousands of west side Cougars. These photos were taken two years ago when WSU played Colorado in one of the first games played at Qwest Field. Yes, the Cougs won … but the first half was a bit shaky. Among those pictured here are rooter bus coordinator Bud Anderson and wife Jackie (right); curious Husky Boyd Veer and Coug buddy (Boyd was a good sport that day); the WSU Marching Band and cousin Dan and wife (also a proud Coug!) Sue. WSU plays Colorado again in Seattle Saturday, September 11. It’s going to be another great season.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
