Young men & cars

I’ve never been a great car fan, but when son Mark is around, I find that cars are an important part of our lives. The first two photos here are from the Seattle Car Show a couple of weeks ago. We met Mark’s buddy Matt, who’s going to college in Seattle. Both had the opportunity to admire cars with price tags up to $600,000, if I recall correctly. They even slid behind the wheel on a couple of occasions. Last weekend Mark had the opportunity to slip behind the wheel of a car that fell into his price range: an ’87 Toyota. Third photo is of Mark telling his Phoenix buddy that he scored on a car for which they’d developed a mutual admiration. Something about the engine. At any rate, I’m sure there will be more cars in our life together as father and son. Hey, I might even learn a thing or two that my friends could never manage to teach me.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
