SA singalong

“SA” stands for Salvation Army. Christmas carols filled the air at Causland Park Saturday night as the Salvation Army Anacortes Corps hosted a traditional singalong, complete with hot cocoa, cookies … and candy canes. Entertainers included singers Norm Swihart and Dick House, with singalong music provided by hearty members of the Anacortes High School Jazz Band. Nerissa Gaffney, a member of Christian outreach band “Fresh Paint,” “signed” for the hearing impaired. Anacortes Corps Captain Michael Paugh greeted singalong guests and extended thanks to the community for holiday support that ranged from food to toys to cash donations. The Anacortes Corps celebrates 100 years in Anacortes with a Brodniak Auditorium event on Saturday, January 21. For more information about the Salvation Army, call 293-6682.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
