Sails away
Conditions were perfect for a sailboat race, and roughly a dozen crews responded to the Anacortes Yacht Club’s invitation Wednesday, May 3 on Fidalgo Bay. Crew size ranged from a handful to as many as a dozen on boats with names like White Lightnin’, Syndicat, Aeolus, Lucky Duck, Puffin, Pangaea, Slingshot, Flashpoint and Cutaway. Mt. Baker loomed in the background as crews raced, sometimes unfurling colorful spinnakers to gain advantage. I first saw the boats from my living room window, and by the time I got to the base of Cap Sante the race was underway. Cheap entertainment, Northwest style.
