Aloha Danny

North Whidbey resident Daniel Fernandez, a native of Hawaii, is also known in this region as “Aloha Danny.” The professional painter (as in house painting) is also a talented musician performing under the Aloha Danny name. On occasion Dan and friends find conditions favorable to surfing down in the Fort Ebey area. When it comes to Fidalgo Island, it’s paddle boarding, such as this recent outing near the public dock at Washington Park. Needless to say, Dan takes some ribbing from surfer friends back home on Oahu. Still, it’s all about the core, and he’s doing his best to stay in shape for the next visit back home.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
