With an open house and public hearing just around the corner on Monday, April 17, Tesoro is proactively providing details and answering questions regarding the refinery’s proposed “Clean Products Upgrade Project.” The open house, hosted by Skagit County, will be held at Anacortes High School from 4 – 8 p.m. (public hearing starts at 4:30 p.m.). Skagit County is responsible for decisions regarding some of the permits necessary to go forward with the project. Subsequent public sessions will be hosted by the state Department of Ecology and the Northwest Clean Air Agency. Learn more about the refinery project at http://www.TesoroAnacortesEIS.com
A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
