Marathon donates masks, other protective equipment
Marathon Petroleum Company has contributed in a major way to efforts to provide vital personal protection equipment (PPE) to hospitals and emergency service providers nationwide, including Skagit County. The contributions were made in response to the international COVID-19 pandemic. Skagit County Department of Emergency Management is one of 45 U.S. organizations to receive a donation from Marathon Anacortes Refinery. The local refinery topped a list of local PPE donors with 28,600 protective masks. In addition to the masks, some gloves, goggles and face shields were donated directly to Island Hospital in Anacortes. “Like many other local companies,” said Marathon Anacortes representative Matt Gill, “we’ve identified and donated specific PPE equipment to local hospitals and medical clinics while maintaining an inventory at the refinery that will protect our on site workers. Those workers continue to run the refinery and ensure critical fuel supplies during this crisis.” Other local PPE donors include Shell and PACCAR. Overall, Marathon Petroleum donated 500,000 pieces nationally from various company facilities.
