Incumbent commissioners trail in primary

With the next and final ballot count scheduled at 5 p.m. Monday, two Skagit County commissioners are trailing in the primary election held Tuesday, August 4. In each contested race the top two vote-getters advance to the November general election. In the case of incumbent county commissioner Ken Dahlstedt, votes at this point leave him in third place, which would mean he would not advance to the general election. In that race, top spot so far goes to non-partisan candidate Peter Browning, with 41.2 percent of the vote; second is Democrat Mary Hudson with 30.7 percent; third is Democrat Dahlstedt with 27.4. Also trailing but apparently headed for the general election ballot is incumbent Dist. One commissioner Ron Wesen. Leading in that race is Democrat Mark Lundsten with 51 percent to Republican Wesen’s 44 percent. For Skagit County primary election results click here. About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
