New construction strong in 2020, trend continues

Here are the stats for new construction issued permits in Anacortes in 2020:

Single family homes: 57
Accessory dwelling units (ADU): 14
Multi-family buildings: 5
– Three 4-unit buildings
– One 15-unit building
– One 25-unit building
Commercial Non-residential buildings: 2
– Two bedroom short term rental unit
– 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse for Lopez Island Creamery

“2021 has already started very strong,” reports City of Anacortes Permit Services Coordinator Dave Oicles. “As of today (January 15) we have already issued four new single family residences and processing two more, along with two ADUs. It’s going to be another busy year for building in Anacortes.”

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
