‘Yes’ to 4th of July celebration!

This just in from City Hall:

“The City of Anacortes will be celebrating our nation’s Independence Day on Sunday, July 4, 2021. This year we will have a firework display and a Patriotic Parade. The city is pleased to restart this Anacortes tradition.”

Mayor Laurie Gere will lead a patriotic program honoring our nation’s 245th year of independence. The Patriotic Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at 3rd Street and Commercial Avenue.

Parade participants may use the online sign up to register to march or drive in this year’s parade. As a precaution, all participants must refrain from handing out any items to the viewing crowd. This includes candy, beads, literature or advertisements, etc.

The fireworks display will take place on July 4th starting at dusk over Fidalgo Bay.

If you have any questions, please contact Sylvia Cooper at 360-661-3523 or Jonn Lunsford at 360-299-1953.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
