Airborne change of command

On Friday, July 23, 2021 the Cougars of U.S. Navy Electronic Attack Squadron 139 held an airborne change of command ceremony during which Cdr. Adam Green of Anacortes was relieved by Cdr. Jacob Vrbas. The change of command orders were read and broadcast to an NAS Whidbey hangar audience as Green and Vrbas flew overhead. When outgoing squadron commander Green landed and approached the hangar he was “ceremoniously” doused with water by his sons, and sprayed with champagne by a fellow officer. A ceremony followed, with a program that included Capt. Todd Cimicata, Carrier Air Wing 17 CAG, awarding Green the Meritorious Service Medal for his performance of duty as Cougar Commanding Officer. Green, whose command tenure included a 10+ month deployment on an aircraft carrier, will report to the Pentagon for his next tour.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
