Experience counts in mayoral race
Anacortes voters opted for experience in the 2021 primary election, at least in terms of mayoral candidates. They chose current council members Matt Miller and Ryan Walters over newcomer Tammy Guffey in a runoff that leads to the November general election. With 2,000 votes remaining to be counted as of this morning, it was Walters, 49.74 percent of the vote; Miller, 46.23 percent; Guffey, 3.86 percent. In another primary race, school board candidates Meredith McIlmoyle and Celese Stevens will face off in November. McIlmoyle received 46.17 percent of the vote; Stevens 38.89 percent; Anastasia Brencick, 14.51 percent. The next vote count will be Thursday afternoon.
