Heritage delights on final 2021 Fly Day

Oh, what a day! Skagit County’s Heritage Flight Museum team closed the 2021 season in style Saturday, September 18 with vintage aircraft flight demonstrations set against blue skies and massive cumulus clouds. Demonstrations ranged from single ship fighter to a 4-plane formation of T-6s, including a “missing man” formation. There were also static displays and a special presentation regarding the “Panay Incident” that preceded the outset of WWII. Featured pilots included Maj. Gen. Bill Anders, Lt. Col. Greg Anders, Alan Anders and Craig Nelson. Can’t wait until next season!

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
