Scenes from Christmas parade 2021

Anacortesans came out in droves for the 2021 Anacortes Lions Christmas Parade, subtitled: “A Walk with Santa.” Sure, the Grinch showed up, but he was on his best behavior. Children scrambled as parade participants passed out candy and seasonal trinkets. The ever popular Fidalgo Rotary riding lawnmower team brought applause. There were firefighters, police officers, refinery emergency response vehicles and 4-H horse riders. Dancers, cheerleaders, coffee shop staff (Moka Joe) and a contingent representing the Anacortes Sister Cities organization were also on hand. Another great kickoff to the “Coastal Christmas” celebrated each year in Anacortes. See the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce website (anacortes.org) for details about upcoming holiday events.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
