Fans raise money for football bleachers

Anacortes High School’s football fans have responded generously to a fundraising effort made in order to make a Friday night post-season home game a possibility.
“The team has never played a playoff game on their home field,” said fundraising volunteer Jeff Platt, “but thanks to the generosity of the community that will change this Friday night! The boys of the AHS team earned a home playoff game, however their field doesn’t have enough seating to host a playoff game. So, the school asked the community to fund rental bleachers. The support was enormous! In less than a day the AHS Football GoFundMe exceeded $5,000!”
This Friday AHS will face off against West Valley of Spokane, thanks to the generosity of the community! Click here to reach fundraising site.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
