Travelift a key asset to marine services

This Travelift, photographed recently when the sun was shining, is an important asset to the marine services industry in Anacortes. The second photo is from a ribbon cutting event in 2016: “Friday was a picture perfect day for a ribbon cutting event at the new MJB / Pacific Marine Center boat launch, which features a 200 metric ton Travelift that will open the Anacortes marine services market up to very large vessels. Presiding over the event was the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce, with Mayor Laurie Gere doing her part with scissors on the four-station ribbon-cutting ceremony. Among many businesses and organizations represented at the event were the Port of Anacortes, the City of Anacortes, Anacortes Marine Trades Association and the Economic Development Association of Skagit County (EDASC). The launch is located on “T” Avenue near Anacortes Marina.

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
