Father and sons take to the skies

It is always exciting to see the Anders Men — (Maj. Gen. Bill Anders, Lt. Col. Greg Anders and Alan Anders — take to the skies for Fly Day performances at Heritage Flight Museum (HFM) in Burlington. One-time NASA astronaut Bill Anders (Apollo 8) and his wife Valerie founded the HFM in Bellingham in 1996, moving the facility to Skagit Regional Airport in 2014. On July 15 Bill piloted a Beecher T-34 with son Greg in the back seat. Son Alan piloted another T-34 as they performed several passes to the delight of their HFM audience. See Heritageflight.org for more information.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
