Busy weekend for state ferries

Don’t be surprised to see higher traffic/pedestrian volume in Anacortes for Labor Day Weekend. State ferry customers should plan ahead for what is anticipated to be one of the busiest travel weekends in the last few years, according to Washington State Ferries (WSF). About 400,000 people are expected to travel throughout the ferry system between Thursday, August 29 and Tuesday, September 5 for Labor Day weekend. The most traveled day will be Saturday, September 2. (As of Friday, September 1, state ferry Yakima was in drydock at Dakota Creek Industries (DCI). No information regarding the ferry’s status on WSF website).

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
