It was, as always, an invigorating adventure. With the number of days slipping by in 2023, I decided Friday that I needed a healthy dose of Deception Pass State Park (pun intended). Before the afternoon was over I had walked West Beach and the dune forest trail between beach and lake. I had photographed fishermen on Cranberry Lake and walkers on North Beach. I heard an eagle screech and spotted a handful of buffleheads just offshore, and as always I sat for a few minutes watching cars pass over Deception Pass and Canoe Pass bridges linking Whidbey and Fidalgo. What a pleasure to live so close to this incredible, watery corner of the Pacific Northwest! Bundle up and experience this park for yourself during this “down season.”
