Hundreds share in DCI celebration

Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) shipyard was the place to be Thursday afternoon as hundreds gathered for a public ceremony in celebration of the company’s 50th Anniversary. Several hundred gathered in the company’s massive fabrication building for light refreshments, guest speakers and a video history. Among those present were DCI CEO Mike Nelson, partners and employees, Anacortes Mayor Matt Miller, U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, Port of Anacortes representatives and shipyard clients. Those attending the anniversary celebration ranged from children to senior citizens, with many taking the opportunity to visit the shipyard after the event. Guests enjoyed light refreshments and mementos including a wooden coaster created by DCI workers.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
