Vintage aircraft thrill crowd

Sunshine, enthusiastic crowd and vintage aircraft “all stars” made for a great day at Heritage Flight Museum in Burlington. Saturday, April 26 marked the first Fly Day of the season. Among aircraft in the lineup were three trainers (back seat and full vision canopy) and one of the crowd favorites, the “Val-Halla” P51 Mustang. Founder of the museum was the late Bill Anders, U.S. military pilot and astronaut famous for the “Earthrise” photograph from space. Among pilots were his sons, Greg and Alan. In addition to the show, guests at the museum viewed static displays as well as military vehicles, equipment and aircraft in hangars. There is an on-site merch shop and Fly Days feature a food caterer. A team of volunteers, many who are military veterans, stand by to assist and answer questions for visitors.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
