Memorial Day in Anacortes

Among Memorial Day events in Anacortes this year was a committal service for the late Walter “Wally” Garland, a U.S. Army veteran who passed away in March of this year. For many years Garland led American Legion Post 13 Memorial Day events. This year his widow, Theresa, led events at Grandview and Fernhill before a committal service for Wally. Memorial Day services featured remarks about the history of the U.S. holiday, acknowledging those who gave their lives in military service. The events also featured singing, prayer and the playing of Taps. Volunteers included Theresa Garland, Betsy Moseley, Patrick Mooney, Jr. and Mike McCunn. Garland’s committal service featured a U.S. Army honor guard and ceremonial presentation of a U.S. flag.
