Vibrant colors

Between our garden and the neighbor’s, I managed to snap a handful of colorful photographs this morning of “spring in progress.” Note little spider suspended from rhododendron blossom.

Ferry adventure

Combine the inaugural 2006 cruise of the Anacortes/Sidney, B.C. ferry with the usual early spring sailing to the San Juans and you’ve got the makings for a bustling Sunday morning and afternoon. Pictured here is the Sealth, on its way out of Anacortes. Also pictured are two scenes from Friday Harbor, and finally, a bicyclist […]

Sailing club

The expression “team practice” takes on a whole new meaning when these teens from Anacortes High School take to the waters of Fidalgo Bay as members of the AHS Sailing Club. The team uses Lido 14 sailboats owned by the Anacortes Parks and Recreation Department, competing with clubs including Port Angeles, Friday Harbor, Orcas and […]

BJ benefit event

Several congregations and friends joined hands Saturday night for a benefit auction and concert on behalf of BJ Daniells, a Guemes Island resident who recently discovered he has a brain tumor. The evening included music and worship from members of the Bridge Christian Fellowship Praise Band, as well as several individual and small group performances. […]

Rock Ridge I & II

Rock Ridge is a residential community boasting some of the most breathtaking view property on Fidalgo Island. This development’s 60 acres border 1,200 acres of public forestland, home of pristine Little Cranberry Lake. Many of the building lots offer sweeping views of British Columbia, the Guemes Channel, and the San Juan Islands.

Window shopping marine style

I love spring mornings, especially the way the light plays on the windows of homes and downtown businesses, including Anacortes Marine Supply and Hardware. This store, owned by the Demopoulos family, boasts the distinction of oldest marine supply business on the West Coast. You can travel to the big city, but you won’t find window […]

Members of a group known as the Improv Comedy Group are renowned in this community for their support of local organizations ranging from Youth Dynamics to the Anacortes High School Drama Department. Participating Saturday night in the annual YD fund-raising banquet were Martin Iverson, Craig Clark and Brian Geer. Martin is a physical therapist/videographer/emcee; Craig […]

Youth Dynamics

It was an awesome turnout of 250-plus for the annual Youth Dynamics ministry Saturday at Anacortes Middle School. Included in these photographs of the dessert banquet are (top) Anacortes YD Director Joel Pemberton and staff members Jade Barth and Teresa Goldstein, guests at the chocolate fountain, YD founder Paul Evans and a friend and his […]

Friday night out

Williams Gym had to be the most exciting place in town Friday as the AHS boys basketball team played host to the Sehome Mariners. In addition to sports fans, the event drew parents of young musicians playing in combined middle school and high school bands. In the third photo, Coach Rick Merganthaler talks to his […]

Salvation Army Centennial

What a night! Approximately 700 guests converged on Brodniak Auditorium Saturday night to help the Salvation Army Anacortes Corps celebrate 100 years of service in Skagit County. Son-in-law Brian Tyhuis graciously consented to the assignment of chief event photographer. These images represent some of his work. Opening the evening program was the Salvation Army Seattle […]

Snow on the Rock

By Thursday afternoon most city streets were in pretty good shape, so I took a drive that included a trip to Cap Sante, and to the end of 5th Street on Fidalgo Bay (tugboat). The fence and old car parts are part of the landscaping at a Commercial Avenue chiropractic clinic.

SA singalong

“SA” stands for Salvation Army. Christmas carols filled the air at Causland Park Saturday night as the Salvation Army Anacortes Corps hosted a traditional singalong, complete with hot cocoa, cookies … and candy canes. Entertainers included singers Norm Swihart and Dick House, with singalong music provided by hearty members of the Anacortes High School Jazz […]
