Docks were bustling early this morning as crews made ready for Day One of Race Week Pacific Northwest 2021. Hosting this year’s event is the Port of Anacortes, Cap Sante Marina.
A number of factors including sunshine and a pent-up desire to gather in groups once again have breathed new life into communities including Anacortes. Businesses were busy up and down Commercial Avenue, with activity spilling over the The Depot and Cap Sante Marina neighborhoods as well. Featured here are a few examples of that activity, […]
Hikes/walks provide exercise, relief from “incarceration” … and an opportunity to meet neighbors of the feathered variety. Some of these birds are more cooperative than others. The flicker is elusive, and the kill deer combines speed and camouflage to make things challenging. Always fun to come away with a photo or two.
What an exciting surprise this morning to find this classic beauty motoring north on Commercial Avenue. By the time I turned around these gents were in front of City Hall. This is a 1924 American LaFrance, restored over years by a dedicated team of volunteers. Hoping to get details on the fact that she’s up […]
When the American Revolution broke out in 1775, the colonists weren’t fighting united under a single flag. Instead, most regiments participating in the war for independence against the British fought under their own flags. A repair and resurfacing project is under way in the dunes area of Deception Pass State Park near Cranberry Lake. The ADA trail was no longer accessible to wheelchairs, with tree roots pushing up through the asphalt. During the closure, old asphalt will be removed, with new gravel placed and fresh paving installed. A wonderful […]
