A recent walk on the Ship Harbor/Guemes Channel Trail yielded sightings including butterflies, a dove, a Canada goose and an otter. Have also spotted eagles and kingfishers in the past. It’s a happening place.

I was losing light fast as I photographed this eagle Tuesday on March’s Point. Massive numbers of eagles are beginning to gather in upriver Skagit County.
Saturday morning sun drew me to Cap Sante and a nearby pond, where I discovered a variety of birds ranging from Hooded Mergansers to Kingfisher and a seagull doing a swan imitation.
Turns out local seagulls and I are attracted to some of the same things. No, not McDonald’s fries in the parking lot. Blue skies, wind and the Fidalgo Island shoreline: in this case Seafarers’ Memorial Park.
If you haven’t been there, or visited recently, put the Ship Harbor Trail/boardwalk on your must do list. An incredible community asset, with more “development” in the works.
