Festival fun

Two days of fun, thanks to the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce and a team of partners including the Port of Anacortes. A popular “old friend” was the Rotary boat-making area. An exciting new element was the milk carton derby. Lots of great entertainment on the Shell Puget Sound Refinery Main Stage!

Farmers Market adds ‘acreage’

It’s not actually ‘acreage,’ but the Anacortes Farmers Market is celebrating expanded space this spring on the grounds of the one-time Northern Pacific Railroad Depot. Vendors range from organic farmers and fishermen to gardeners and woodcarvers. The market was the place to be Saturday in downtown Anacortes!

Anacortes High School’s baseball team jumped Lakewood Tuesday, May 8 in an 11-3 tournament win that included a grand slam home run by Marcus Anstensen. Pitcher A.J. Yost got the win. Next game is Saturday, May 12 at Daniels field.

All-America revisited

Among birthday surprises received by 90-year-old Wallie Funk Sunday was an All-American City banner re-created by the Anacortes Museum and presented by museum representative Bret Lunsford. Funk and former Anacortes Mayor Bud Strom were instrumental in this city’s distinction as an All-America City in 1962.
