Free income tax assistance
If your annual income for 2011 was $50,000 or less, you likely qualify for free tax assistance, available six days a week. Volunteers from the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program are available at Anacortes Middle School (Thursday and Friday, 2:30 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and Whidbey Island Bank (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). Pictured here are volunteers Rick VanDeren, Mike King and Marsha Flowers. Also on hand at AMS Thursday were greeters Merryl VanDeren and Joyce Scoll. In addition to tax filing, the volunteers will answer miscellaneous tax questions. VITA is sponsored by the IRS.
