A new twist on an old American tradition was a July 3, 2016 celebration at The Depot in downtown Anacortes, celebrating not only the Fourth of July but the City’s 125th Anniversary. The family friendly event featured patriotic music, a “cry” by Town Crier Richard Riddell, fun and games and a brief review of American […]
I’m already missing the annual 4th of July parade in downtown Anacortes. This photo shows crowd and giant inflatable firemen from Shell Anacortes Refinery fire department. The inflatables are a perennial favorite among children at the parade. In 2020, another COVID-19 related cancellation.
This photo of a derelict boat in the Samish neighborhood was taken in 2009. Not sure there’s anything left to photograph now.
Note sign, lower right corner. I wonder if this sky pilot had a “Discover Pass” in his back pocket? Lake Campbell boat launch, 2016.
Before the ultimate decision to remove her from Fidalgo Bay due to leaks below the waterline, the vessel Enchantress attracted many photographers. Photo taken in Fall 2006 from former site of plywood mill before cleanup.
This photo of the Deception Pass Tours jet boat at Canoe Pass is from 2013, but you can still find the boat in the neighborhood, back in business now after a brief COVID-19 shutdown. This jet boat excursion business has one foot in Skagit, the other in Island County, which means they were able to […]

The Swinomish Channel park features three pavilions resembling woven cedar hats, interpretive panels, and a native plant garden. The park was developed for the 2011 Canoe Journey/Paddle to Swinomish. Swinomish Tribal member and artist Cecelia […]
Fidalgo Bay serves routinely as the playground and “field of competition” for local sailboat races. Often Mt. Baker offers a snow-capped backdrop. This photo was taken in 2006. Look for sails on the bay today and tomorrow.
One of my favorite shots of Skyline, viewed from the observation point on the Loop Road at Washington Park on the west side of Anacortes.
Lovric’s Boat Yard on west side of Anacortes, as seen from above Guemes Channel, summer 2015.
Frank Orr (left) presides over a demonstration at the 2009 Anacortes Steam Show. What a great event. Always looked forward to it.
Scenes from Opening Day of Boating Season 2013, hosted by the Port of Anacortes at Cap Sante Marina. There was no 2020 event due to COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings. Activity on local waters is starting to pick up, however. Sunny blue summer days have an amazing power to draw folks out.
