I like to catalogue weather vanes. I found this one on my way to the Ship Harbor Trail on Sunday, and brilliantly nicknamed it “Moby Dick. Click for more photos:https://www.anacortestoday.com/activities-journal/2012/05/30/weather-vanes-as-art/
This rainbow was a welcome surprise after a dismal, wet start to the day. Bring on the sun!
Among several Anacortes memorials to fishermen lost at sea is this plaque in a small park area adjacent to the W.T. Preston. February 14, 2017 marked yet another year since the “A boats,” vessels Altair and Americus, and all crew members were lost at sea. Our condolences to all who suffered the loss of loved […]
The following is a sports column by Anacortes native Wallie Funk, a great community newspaper publisher and unabashed Anacortes High School sports fan. It is of particular interest given that the AHS boys team is currently involved in post-season play — 70 years from the year of the basketball game featured here. By Wallie Funk, […]
I took a bit of a sentimental journey today and discovered this photo of the Deception Pass Bridge taken during a 2015 flight with a friend. A great friend. Maybe again this spring…
Enjoy the opportunity to explore state parks including Deception Pass today for free, the second day of free access in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Crowds turned out Sunday at park beaches despite winter temperatures. This is West Beach.

Eisenhower supreme commander of Allied Forces in Europe as part of Operation Overlord. Dad was serving in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet at the time. Although he was the son of a […]
Clouds parted this morning to reveal new snowfall on Mt. Baker and foothills. A beautiful time of year.
What a beautiful day! Blue skies drew me out, where I was shocked to discover summer temperatures with a seasonal wind. Digital signs up and down the avenue reported temperatures ranging from 68-72 degrees around noon. I shot this photograph at the base of Cap Sante on the beach below the gazebo.
This photograph of the old Anacortes High School from my Grandpa Marion Berentson’s files struck a sentimental chord with many “local kids” visiting the “You Know You’re from Anacortes When” Facebook page. Ah, the good ol’ days!
