Skagit elk

I saw about two dozen elk in two different locations Wednesday on a drive east on Highway 20. This trio was grazing just off the highway, not too far from a herd of cattle. About 8 p.m.

Don’t get up

It was a scene reminiscent of my childhood days and road trips to North Dakota. Only this time I was just a few miles east of Sedro-Woolley on Highway 20. This buffalo was unimpressed by my presence, perhaps confident in the knowledge that he could easily handle any “threat” I represented with my camera.

New Skagit jail update

Visit this link to read an update on the new Skagit County Jail, scheduled to open two years from now. Work begins any day on the site, just south of downtown Mount Vernon at the former Truck City. USW strike ends

Tesoro Anacortes Refinery management received word late Monday night (March 23, 2015) that local USW members have ratified a contract, bringing a strike to an end. The company will now start bringing represented employees back to work. The strike began on Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, 2015.

Port to buy Marine Supply

The Port of Anacortes has announced plans to purchase Marine Supply and Hardware Co. from the Demopoulos family. Details are pending, but tentative plans call for the port to maintain the historic buildings on Commercial Avenue, with demolition of some dilapidated storage buildings.
