It was roughly this time of year in 1984 that my dad, Buehl Berentson, decided to take a run at the Republican nomination for Skagit County commissioner, District One. One of his campaign photos was this one at the Campbell Lake farm of John Cameron (on tractor). I always told Dad he was blessed to […]
If you just slipped into your sixties and are an “alum” of Mt. Erie Elementary School, you might find this class photo interesting.
This deer finished an early Sunday morning tour of Parkside, then strolled across the road and back into the forest.
What a great Saturday afternoon “show” at Cap Sante Boat Haven, where more than a dozen steamboat owners put on a show, steaming out of the marina, looping back in, parading past the commercial dock and then back to their slips in preparation for tonight’s party. Thanks, Northwest Steamboat Society! See my Facebook link for […]
An image from my digital photo file, eight years ago, with thoughts of my favorite gardener…

Thompson, currently undergoing work at Dakota Creek Industries in Anacortes. The Thompson, built and owned by the U.S. Navy but operated by the University of Washington, is named […]
Cap Sante Boat Haven, already an attraction for locals and tourists alike, added a feature this summer for those seeking a bit of intellectual exercise. An oversized chess set has been placed on the esplanade in front of the Harbormaster’s office. The only drawback I can see is the prospect of losing with an audience.
Details are pending, but I couldn’t resist posting this photograph I received from brother Nick yesterday. Classic American boys … one with “store bought” fishing rod and the other with a more traditional, “classic” fishin’ pole. Update: Boys are cousins Hunter Coleman and Harrison Steen, fishing at Lake Lanier, Georgia. Stick was Harrison’s idea … […]
They’re small now, but by fall they’ll be big, beautiful, delicious apples. Get yourself an espalier … a garden attribute all-round.
