Signs of the season

Rather than plopping down in front the television yesterday, I took my daughter up on her offer to hike a forest trail with me. A great decision! We parked the car near the water tower on 29th Street and worked our way up the trail to a point where we could see Little Cranberry Lake below. This was one of my dad’s favorite “playgrounds” when he was a boy, and the two of us have walked the same trail together a number of times. It was nice to share this family tradition with Kirsten … and we had a great chance to talk. Get that forest trail map from the City Parks and Recreation Department today, and take a hike. P.S. I did get to the tube in time to see the Mariners drop another game. They are making me very nervous…

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
