Chamber reaches across border

A contingent of area business representatives traveled to Victoria, B.C. this week on a trip dedicated to building on tourism partnerships. Anacortes Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Michael Broome (in vest) put the trip together. I joined him in my capacity as Chamber of Commerce Tourism Marketing Director, and the others on the American team included Paul Hopkins of San Juan Airlines and Vicki Cox of Carlson Wagonlit Travel. Joining us on the other side of the border were Butchart Gardens PR executive Alicia Pine and Powell Travel Design Manager Beverley Dragseth. In addition to Butchart, the itinerary included stops at Victoria Butterfly Gardens and the new Victoria Estate Winery. See photos in Activities section under “Butchart and butterflies.”

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
