Her parade of admirers will grow steadily for the next few months as weather and seasonal activities bring more people to Seafarers’ Memorial Park. She is the “Lady of the Sea,” a sculpture by Deborah Copenhaver. I shot this photo with a flash to fill in details including the small boy hanging to his mother’s skirt. The plaque inscription reads: “Dedicated to those who work and play by the sea, and the families and friends who wait for them.” In addition to those who earn their living on the sea, I am reminded of local families associated with naval aviation. Theirs is a commitment that takes them away from their families for months on end.
