Rainbow Bridge

Blue skies and billowy white clouds drew me to LaConner yesterday afternoon, and I was rewarded with this photo of the Rainbow Bridge. This bridge is one of three spans linking Fidalgo Island with the Skagit Valley and Whidbey Island. There’s Berentson Bridge (twin bridges) over the Swinomish Channel, the Rainbow Bridge linking Fidalgo and the Swinomish Reservation with LaConner, and Deception Pass Bridge linking Fidalgo with Whidbey Island. I’ll work on a photo of Berentson Bridge next. This bridge is named after Uncle Duane, who served in the Legislature for 18 years, and then as state Secretary of Transportation before retiring. He now splits his time between Burlington and Phoenix.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
