Waterfront Festival: family fun

Set your alarm clock now so you don’t oversleep Saturday, May 22. You’ll want to be one of the first in line for all of the goodies, activities and entertainment options at the Anacortes Waterfront Festival. Pictured here from the 2003 Festival is Shell Anacortes Refinery volunteer Sandy Corrion, one of many refinery employees who donate their time at the Shell booth. Features at the popular booth include toys, coloring books … and the opportunity to win one of two bicycles. Check out the food, desserts, entertainment, classic cars, arts and crafts … and boats! The family-oriented festival opens at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, closing at 6 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
