Tobeys still running

Matt Tobey, his dad Chris and brother Jake all participated in last Saturday’s Tesoro March Point Run, siblings competing in the 10K while dad ran the 5K. Matt, pictured here, was overall male winner in the 10K with a time of 34:7. Matt has competed at the college level for Washington State University. Brother Jake took first place in the 15-19 age bracket with a time of 41:14. The Tobeys ran cross country at Anacortes High School. Another local runner was Brad Adams, who took first place in the 40-49 bracket of the 5K with a finishing time of 17:38. There were 260 runners at the sun-splashed event. About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
