Kenmore puts wheels down

Their seaplanes have been flying to the San Juans and British Columbia for years … and now Kenmore Air will offer a land-based service in Skagit County. I put my Chamber of Commerce hat on Monday to take part in an inaugural Kenmore Air Express flight from Skagit/Bayview Airport to Seattle. Kenmore, established in 1946, will offer the Bayview-Sea-Tac shuttle beginning November 29. The flight takes 30 minutes from Bayview to Boeing Field, where a shuttle bus then completes the trip to Sea-Tac on a 10- to 12-minute run directly to the main level gate. Pictured here with one of Kenmore’s nine-passenger prop jets is Kenmore President Gregg Munro, son of the company’s founder. He and a friendly crew of company officers and employees rolled out the red carpet for a flight that included representatives of area chambers of commerce, the press, the Port of Skagit County and the Economic Development Association of Skagit County. Call 1-800-543-9595 for more information on this new air service.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
