Senator visits Anacortes

U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell spent a couple of hours in Anacortes Wednesday on a visit that featured a presentation by the Port of Anacortes and Dakota Creek Industries (DCI). Following a presentation regarding DCI plans for expanded facilities, DCI founder Dick Nelson (left) took the senator on a tour of indoor manufacturing facilities on 4th Street. Port of Anacortes Executive Director Dan Stahl (right) also took part in the tour. Among those present for the Port/DCI presentation were State Sen. Harriet Spanel, a representative of the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) and a staffer from 2nd District U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen’s office. City Attorney/Planner Ian Munce was present, as were Economic Development Association of Skagit County (EDASC) Director Don Wick and Anacortes Chamber Executive Michael Broome, among others.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
